This is our story.....

Strathroy Dance Club officially took its name in the Fall of 1961 with the goal to provide a Not-for-profit recreational dance experience in all aspects of dance. In those days, the recital performance in the Spring showcased a theme like "Cinderella" or "Alice in Wonderland". The music was provided by piano, drums or organ accompaniment by popular artists like Gwen Beynan, Norma Sharpe, Donna Cassie, Nancy McDougall, Dalton Walpole, Dave Robinson, MaryLynne Parker and Steven Kettlewell. There was usually a narrator or MC for the show. Classes were taught at local church halls, the local Scout house, rental space in the downtown core and finally at the West Middlesex Memorial Centre. The recitals were held at the local elementary schools and later at the local high school with a larger stage. Some instructors over the past 50 years included Rita Hunt, Diane Carter, Gayle Wright, Nancy Newton, Ann Higgins, Wendy Robinson, Joan Butler, Carol Hamilton, Debbie Bryce, Teresa Wallis, Pam Morningstar, Nancy Tuffin, Wanda Richardson, Susan Brown, Susan Marshall, Donna Nesbitt, Ruth Anderson, Tracey Dahl, Karen Larocque, KerriLynne Harris, Ann Joynt, Alison Graham, Angela Alcaidinho Tracey Haist, Devin Cornell, Jodie Roes, Jess Mahovlich, Angelina Cormier, Michelle Koricina, Cassie VanderHoek, Laura Newton, Brooke Ramsay, Monica Zavitz, Dayna Herrington, Jess Gowdy and Kelly Johnson.

Many students, young and old, passed through the doors over the last 60 years taking Moms & Tots, Kiddie Dance classes, Dance Readiness, Baton, Jazz, Tap, Irish, Highland, Gymnastics, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary, Rising Stars, Song & Dance classes. Previous students now have their children and their grandchildren dancing here. We have seen many gifted dancers become very gifted teachers and they have accomplished very successful careers in dance.

The SDC is managed by a dynamic executive of adult volunteers who are balancing family with fulltime jobs while dedicating energy to provide dance opportunities for families in the Strathroy area promoting affordable dance. In co-operation with the Strathroy-Caradoc Recreation department and as a member of the Strathroy District Arts Council, the SDC is an awesome opportunity for our local youth. We continue to support the Thames Valley District School Board, local Community Players and local figure skating groups with costuming and Teaching experience. Our dancers can experience an adventure through many interpretative dance styles from Strathroy Dance Club at Middlesex Arena in Strathroy as well as in Parkhill at the West Williams Community Ctr.

"A dance teacher helps their students find the song in their heart, the beat in their feet and a passion for life". –Unknown author

I started dancing with the Strathroy Dance Club when I was three years old. I joined the competition team at the age of four. I danced at Strathroy Dance Club until I was sixteen years old and then finished my Competitive dance career at Elan Dance Arts. I completed grades and medals in BATD and ADAPT syllabuses. After receiving highly commended and the highest mark in our area, I had the opportunity to perform in Toronto for all the BATD judges. During my career I had the pleasure of meeting and dancing with Jerome Bob (the director of Fever), Twitch and Cody Bonnell (from So You Think You Can Dance Canada). I had the opportunity to compete in Florida for the All Star Competition. Dance was always a huge part of my life. After I finished my competitive career, I knew I wanted to continue dancing and was hired as a teacher. I have 10 years of experience teaching in various dance styles. I have completed my module 1 International Dance Teaching Standard course. I'm also a registered and accredited Acrobatic Arts instructor. Chelsea is a graduate of the Social Work program at Lambton college

My name is Miss Kelly Maxwell. I have been dancing for 45 years and teaching for 30 years. I have always loved the way i can express so many of my emotions and thoughts through dance. My goal as a teacher is to give all my students a safe space to express themselves in all styles of dance. I believe it is important to be confident and love yourself inside and out. Through my years of BATD dance certification training,, my experience at the National Ballet School of Canada and my PAEC Kinder Dance certificate course I feel I have the tools to guide your young dancers through their growth and development. I am looking forward to our dance season. See you on the Dance Floor 💃 ❤️
